Pantera was one of the greatest metal bands ever.  Founded by brothers Darrell Abbott (Dimebag) and Vinnie Paull Abbot, Pantera would become the leading metal act of the 90's. After the 80's passed and hair metal was dying not too many metal band knew what to do, and very few metal bands actually survived. But Pantera stood out with Phil Anselmo on vocals, Rex Brown on bass, Vinnie Paul on drums, and Dimebag on guitars they were easily one of the heaviest and most sucessful bands of the decade.  In an era where pop and soft rock ruled the airwaves Pantera stood strong and continued to prove music critics everywhere wrong. Criticts would say heavy metal is dead and Pantera would sell out arena's all of the country proving them wrong. They became the kings of metal in a short period of time.  After the release of their 2000 record re-inventing the steel Phil and Rex decided that he wanted to try something new so they approached Dime and Vinnie for help. Dimebag eventually set up a deal with the record label for Phil and Rex to release a record with their other band "Down".  Shortly after that Phil and Rex stopped talking to Dimebag and Vinnie Paul and Phil went on to form Superjoint Ritual and Pantera was at a sudden end.
